Condition Report: the top trim on this item is the same age as the case, and looks good, but probably from another antique German clock, as it is different from Bower's illustration. Case with old finish with minor scrapes and scratches, old repairs, drops replaced, a few small pieces of applied ornament replaced, minor chips and dings to lower and middle hawks bill molding, the mid molding also with a loss at the front right corner, upper left and right cornice with with horizontal splits below ogee molding, case sides with minor splits, one piece of carved trim at lower left side of upper door replaced, finial replaced, movement ticks, strikes, and music plays, upper comb missing one tooth, 52"h x 18"w. Condition Report: excellent original condition; case and movement uncleaned; excellent satin patina on original finish. Details on this clock can be found in "Lenzkirch Clocks, the Unsigned Story", pages 214 and 110. The nick-name for the clock comes from the little mermaid on the weather-vane at top. George Everett writes that "this is one of the most ornate Lenzkirch models made". The movement with good trademark and well impinged serial #. Original pendulum, stabilizers, dial, hands, bracket and trim. The only minor shortcoming, and this is minor, is that the black wax has fallen out of the engraved dial numerals, and the numerals appear as a gold tone, rather than as black. Probably best to leave it as is; the black can be added at any time. Ht 43", 110cm.

Condition Report: first, there are 3 extra holes, with darkness, next to the movement mounting bracket, indicating a possible movement change in the case. There is a large spider crack in the porcelain dial at 4:30. A minor ding in pendulum bob below center. The movement has been professionally cleaned and re-strung with gut, and bezel, hands, pulley, pendulum and associated parts are original. In good running order. See "Lenzkirch, the Unsigned Story", page 104 for line drawing of this model. Finials are different. Interestingly, the dial plate is numbered 465443 [one digit off], probably a factory error. Condition Report: the case has some nicks and scrapes commensurate with the age of the clock. Movement and mounting bracket are original to the case. In addition to the Lenzkirch logo, movement assembly carries the serial # on the rear plate, the dial plate, and the intermediate escapement plate. Pendulum is original. The porcelain dial is very good with only a minor crack above 12. Clock seems to run and strike fine. Not an exact match, this model appears to be most similar to style 18 in the 1870 Lenzkirch catalog. Ht 46"

Condition Report: overall very good to excellent original condition. Note there is another very similar Lenzkirch also in today's sale. Although most of the Holt collection clocks have been recently cleaned by Beacham's Clock Co in Sisters, OR [an excellent establishment], this particular clock was never taken for restoration, and the oil in the pivots is dark and congealed. Although movement is complete and sound and willl still tick, it should be cleaned prior to regular operation. Be careful not to clean retailers name off of dial. Condition Report: a great looking clock that unfortunately lost its original top. A good workman took parts from two other old tops and created a top that looks OK at a distance, but its reddish tone is a bit obvious when you get up close; holes and shadows on rear of top explain its origin. Now beyond the negative, this clock is otherwise in outstanding original condition, with a great movement, recently cleaned by Beachams, and in running and striking order. Condition Report: Although the case is not old, it is well made and the carving shows the extra fine skills of the maker. The signed movement itself bears serial #284727, has been cleaned and re-strung and is in good working order. Typical single train movement with maintaining power and adjustable pallets. Mounting bracket and pendulum are proper Lenzkirch items. There is a small hole in top rear of case from pushing a hanging nail through the case-back.
