Howard & Co., Boston, Mass., "No. 57 Regulator", jeweler's regulator wall clock, the walnut and burl walnut case with bold quarter columns, having turned and carved capitals and turned bases, flanking the burl veneer trunk door with reverse painted and gilt presentation, "THE GREEN SHOE MFG. CO. (INC.) NOV. 24, 1924. BY THE EMPLOYEES", over a burl veneered, stepped, tapered bottom bracket, upper door with raised wooden spandrels enframing the dial, over a nicely detailed carved molding above trunk door, and fan carved, broken arch top, Roman numeral painted dial signed "E. HOWARD & CO. BOSTON", 8 day, time only, weight driven movement with maintaining power and large brass, decorated bob and gold leafed pendulum rod, with cylindrical weight.

Condition Report: this clock is in almost untouched original condition. The case retains its original finish with some abrasions and scuffs at corners and one small repair to upper right corner. The center finial and half round plinth are absent and the pendulum rod and the weight hook have been repaired. Joel Warren of ithacacalendarclocks.com has a pattern for this finial, can faithfully reproduce this missing finial and is willing to do so for the future owner. The dial with original paint and hands has minor flaking around the four mounting screws. The only other example of a No. 57 Regulator coming to auction in the past was sold in August 2016 at Thomaston Galleries in Thomaston, Maine, for $41,000 plus buyer's premium and was missing it's weight and bottom bracket.

Condition Report: the case retains its original finish. The dial has been professionally repainted, hour hand replaced with a genuine E. Howard hand from a smaller model and is about an inch too short. The minute hand is original. There is a half inch shadow board attached to the case back, well done and can be removed. A thin piece of molding about 8" long is absent from the circular rim around bottom tablet. The length of the clock itself is 59", while the length of the shadow board is 62". Otherwise this clock is in very good original condition, with original gold leaf pendulum rod, decorated bob, tie-down, baffle, weight and pulley. The movement has been recently serviced by the consignor and is properly signed E. Howard & Co., Boston, Mass., part of the text is hidden under suspension bridge (see detail photo). Iron weight with cast in "1", as used on a #1 or #6. Dated 1875 behind mounting bracket.
