Original signed painted dial has some small stains, but is in otherwise nice condition. Original table has scattered loss. Gong base and gong are missing. The strike side spring is missing. Hands may be replaced. Movement is signed. Nice card label inside.

Condition Report: Mahogany veneered case has an old finish has some veneer repairs on the outer band. The OG molding is now black which is very unusual as OG moldings are always veneered. Someone may have taken off the original veneer or painted right over the veneer (difficult to tell?). Original tablet has loss in the center. Original dial has been repainted. Hour hand has been shortened. Dark label inside with the overpasted strip added to cover the 30 hour part of the label. The upper and lower glasses are original. The lower glass is labelled "President's House" and shows Mount Vernon.

Condition Report: hairline cracks in enamel dial. Case is in good condition with interesting wax seal on top. Modern glass used throughout. Brass cables on fusees. Heavy brass movement will need to be reinstalled into the case. One of the movement mounting brackets is broken. Pendulum bob is from a modern German clock. Aluminum seconds hand. Movement ticks and strikes, but was not tested comprehensively.

Movement is held to a seat board via screws through bottom pillars, and that board is held in case with a single wood screw at bottom. Although case is quite old, it is probably not the original for this movement. Well engraved brass dial needs silvering. Object left side molding needs re-gluing. Still an attractive adaptation of a well made movement that will appeal to those attracted to mechanics. Movement plates measure 3 x 3.5in.

The movement is stamped with serial number 52797 and "Chappelment Brevet " as well as a trademark featuring a bird with arrows. Movement runs but was not tested long term.
