Condition Report: black finish has worn off of instrument leaving a dull medium-dark patina on the brass.Dimensions are for wood box. Partial examination certificate from National Physical Laboratory under the lid of the case. Instrument contains mercury. Hand delivery is recommended.

Friez, Baltimore, Maryland, brass body, mounted in a gray painted brass box, Navy tag dated 1942. (2) W. M. Welch Scientific Company, Chicago, Illinois, brass body with thermometer, mounted in a gray painted copper box, Navy tag dated 1943.

Condition Report: (1) Brass case glass is absent. Steel case with oxide and wear from heavy use. Instrument itself is very dusty. There is a long split in the lower half of the brass instrument body. (2) Copper box has dents and scratches. Instrument body with a nice old patina. Instruments contain some mercury. Hand delivery is recommended.

Fortin-style mercurial barometers by Sargent-Welch


Barometers- 2 (Two): Sargent-Welch Scientific Co., Skokie, Illinois, "U.S. Weather Bureau Type" Fortin-style mercurial barometers, polished nickel-silver engine divided scales showing both inch and centimeters with vernier plates, thumbscrew adjustment below cistern for zeroing, fixed to wood backboards for wall mounting.

Condition Report: both units are in very good condition. One wood backboard looks factory made, while the other looks bench-made. Both instruments have mounts on the front for thermometers, but none are included. Instrument may contain some mercury. Hand delivery is recommended. Sold "as is ".

Barometers- 2 (Two) Henry J. Green, Brooklyn, New York, stick barometers, in black metal cases with brass hardware, silvered scales reading 26 to 33 with small vernier scale, thermometers on the outside of instruments, all in fitted finger-jointed wood cases with gimbaled mounts.

Condition Report: black finish is scratched off of the brass cases in many places. Neither instrument has mercury. Both thermometers appear to be complete and working. Packaging tape and residue on both wood cases. Henry J. Green was the nephew of and successor to instrument maker James Green. When James retired in 1885, the name of the firm was changed to Henry J. Green: Many of the barometers made in the United States between 1840 and 1940 were manufactured by this company.
